A few months back I mentioned my plan for really focusing on one site until it got into the top three rankings - well it’s finally happened - my home improvement site is now number two for its main keyword!
This is very exciting for me for two reasons - one: more revenue - yay! And two: I get to move on to promoting other sites!! After looking at this site, figuring out creative ways to promote it, and figuring out how to make it look just right for months - it’ll be great to move on to some other ones!
Here’s what I did over the past few months to move it up from oblivion to number two:
- Posted articles on it regularly - about 2-3 a week
- Promoted it by good old fashioned article directory submissions - only submitting to three directories - Ezine Articles, Go Articles, and Article Biz
- Sponsored a few WP themes at Digital Point
- Submitted to directories, including a small handful of paid ones that looked good (for around $25 each)
I still plan on adding articles on a fairly regular basis, and doing some promoting here and there - I’m just going to test things out to see what it takes to keep a site in top rankings (and I’m still working towards getting in that number one spot 
).
As for my next goal - now that I have some more finances to work with, I’m going to promote three of my sites that have been around for a while until I can get them up there in the top rankings as well. Starting… now!

This site has been my biggest source of income ever since I started really focusing on it - it really makes a difference! Its climbing in the rankings has been the main reason for my recent income increase.

Are you submitting unique articles to the article directories, so each article will only appear in a single directory?

Since we have you here, are you submitting to directories yourself or are you outsourcing? If you are outsourcing, what company do you use?

Hey Jon - since I only submit to those three directories, I do them myself. I don’t want to submit to too many and have a bunch of duplicates out there.

Oh right Jon - I actually do pay for directory submissions. I went through Digital Point and paid around $100 for 1000 directory submissions which included like 130 guaranteed.

Jen, that is fantastic news! It’s good to know focusing works. Although I don’t know if I could ever bear to only focus on one project for too long a period of time
I just started on a new “project”, but the sites I’ll be working on are a lot smaller in scope. But they definitely involve focus!
